The school is pleasantly situated on
two sites in a quiet corner of the neighbourhood. It is surrounded by tall trees
and grassy areas giving it a peaceful village atmosphere.
The Infant Department
is next to St. Peter's Church and the Junior Department is situated across the
road, next to Harborne Cricket Club. Parts of the Junior Department date back to
1837 when the original Free School on Harborne High Street was moved and became
a National School. St Peter's is a co-educational, Church of England Controlled Primary school catering for children aged 3 to 11. The school was formed after the amalgamation of the two separate St Peter's Infant and St Peter's Junior Schools. There are 420 children on roll in the Infant (4 ‑ 7 year olds) and Junior Departments (7 ‑ 11 year olds) and children are grouped according to age, with two classes in each year group. The admission number for each year group is sixty. There is also a Nursery Class situated in the Infant building which has 52 part time children (3 years plus) - 26 a.m. and 26 p.m. The standard of education provided by the school is of the highest calibre, thanks to the dedication of the teachers, parents and pupils towards achieving the shared aims of the school. Both the Infant and Junior schools received glowing commendations from Ofsted prior to the amalgamation. Both reports are available from the school office. The school was described as 'a very good school with high standards of attainment as a result of very good teaching.' Mission Statement: St. Peter's Church of England Primary School strives to provide a warm, safe and caring environment that reflects Christian values. All individual pupils, parents, staff and governors are valued and work together to enable each child to continually improve to the highest possible standard. All children will experience appropriate access to a National Curriculum that is stimulating and relevant and encompasses all areas of learning, including opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural education both within the school and the wider community. We promote high standards of good behaviour through the development of self-discipline and mutual respect for others. |
